the game expo expands its impact

GROWTH ON ALL SIDES

Photography captured by Dua Nazar

For tech heads across Australia The Game Expo is somewhat  of the new kid on the block, creating a fun and safe space for enthusiasts of gaming and pop culture.

For the team at Levelhead Gaming, TGX 2026 felt like an event now stepping confidently into its next phase. Something which runs in parallel to the work we’ve been doing … 2026 certainly seems to have a theme of growth!

TGX has begun to feel more self-assured, more varied and importantly … More community-driven, with a show floor that gave equal energy to international guests, local creators, competitive play and fan culture.

“Being my first time at the game expo, it was a great first impression. I loved the variety and use of a smaller scale convention. As an aspiring voice actor, being able to speak to professionals in the field I was passionate about was so surreal"

Mel Collins, Host

Across the weekend, the LHG team came away with the same impression: The Game Expo has found a stronger sense of scale, confidence and community.

“That was one of my biggest takeaways, there was a huge focus on international talent. Combined with the plethora of Aussie-made indie titles and expansive artists alley, TGX 2026 had an overwhelmingly strong sense of community. Everyone I engaged with had a similar sentiment, TGX 2026 was bigger and better in every way possible”

- Nathan Langridge, Producer/Host

Held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre across 14 and 15 March, this year’s show brought together tournaments, cosplay, artists alley, freeplay gaming and a packed lineup of guests in a format that felt approachable without lacking energy.

For our team, one of the biggest strengths of TGX 2026 was the way it balanced international talent with local passion.

Nathan points to the presence of guests like legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro, Kyoto-based studio 17-Bit, and Marvel Rivals voice actors Alpha Takahashi and Eliah Mountjoy as proof that the event is widening its reach, while still keeping its community feel intact.

Official event programming leaned into exactly that mix, pairing headline guests with cosplay, tournaments, artists, tabletop experiences and more.

“Plenty of passionate panels were on display all day, competitive fps with energetic commentary was live for casual or committed viewing” - Conor Woods, Director

Just as importantly, the show seems to offer something slightly different from the scale of something like PAX.

Both Luke and Conor describe TGX as more navigable, with enough happening across the floor to stay exciting, but without becoming overwhelming.

That made room for smaller moments to stand out too, from rhythm games and retro throwbacks to the Just Dance stage … Even a tattoo booth for your next geek ink.

For us, the indie developers and the artists alley is what gives the event much of its personality.

“Pick your poison, if it’s tabletop, cosplay or E-Sports there is something for everyone at PAX’s little cousin.”

Sebastian Ho, Camera Operator

Alongside this was the inclusion of a booth from the team at Keychron who displayed a series of hardware that impressed users. Keychron specializes in designing and building quality keyboards and mice.  With a folio of designs, they are all over everything that taps, clacks, types and tracks!

Importantly the event takes place towards the beginning of the year, giving geeks and gamers something to enjoy as the months ahead unfold.

It’s nice to see and hear that the team behind the event is also growing ... just as Levelhead Gaming itself is, all in all an event that demonstrates that a rising tide (Community) lifts all ships.

And we are grateful for the opportunity to capture some of that growth and experience The Game Expo in all its glory! Huge thanks to the team for having us!

See you next year!

Special thanks to Daniel Chlebowczyk and the Mob Zombies team for organising and assisting with the special guest interviews on the day!
